Storytelling is a way to make the audience feel something. Capturing what makes us human allows us to connect. As an advertising student, I was taught the importance of storytelling in advertising, but I have found it is a rare strategy in the industry today. In the third year of my studies, I joined the school of journalism at MSU to create commercials with student production teams. My goal was to inspire them to find commercials fun to produce by prioritizing storytelling within concept development. This unlocked a passion within me to center truth-telling in my work.
